Biography

During his studies of law and music in Rome, he signed his first stages with the University Theatre.

In 1983, his first opera stages were highly successful.

 

As a result, he was invited as stage director/set designer by several Italian theatres, as well as many festivals and opera houses in other countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Israel and Switzerland).

Prior to his appointment as the general and artistic director of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, he served as artistic director in many festivals and Concerti Telecom, as well as superintendent of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna.

He is a regular fixture on audiovisual media, producing and presenting numerous broadcasts for radio and television (RAI).

On our stage, he has signed works such as Tre Intermezzi —bringing to light three little masterpieces of the 18th century—, Il matrimonio segreto (Cimarosa) and the world premieres of L'inimico delle donne (Galuppi) and Guillaume Tell (Grétry).

He has also staged Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Traviata, Le Pays du sourire, Rita ou le mari battu, Il Campanello di notte, Otello, L'equivoco stravagante (with which he won the French Critics Prize in 2012), Manon, La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein, La Gazzetta, Rigoletto, L'elisir d'amore, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Bohème and, more recently, Nabucco
