FROM LIÈGE TO PARIS…

Is there still need to introduce the Champs-Elysées Theatre, one of Paris’ finest venues!? As a reminder, it was built in 1913 at the impetus of a group of artists (Henry Van de Velde, the Perret Brothers, Antoine Bourdelle and Maurice Denis). The Champs-Elysées Theatre was the first Parisian theatre to be entirely built in reinforced concrete and has been perpetuating the tradition, for a century, of programming eclectic and first-rate works (opera, recitals, orchestras, dance, etc.). Its beginnings are still marked by the “scandal” of the first performance of The Rite of Spring (Stravinsky and Nijinski), a work which was equally shocking in terms of its music and choreography. The artistic adventure of the Champs-Élysées Theatre has since been illustrated by the presence of the most prestigious artists and ensembles.

It is with immense pleasure that the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège has accepted the invitation made by the Champs-Elysées Theatre to participate in the cycle of concerts named “The Great Voices”. Our orchestra, conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni, will accompany two extremely talented young artists, Saimir Pirgu (who played Alfredo Germont in La Traviata in 2009 on our stage) and Vannina Santoni, in a programme devoted to duets of love.

It promises to be a very prestigious evening!
