2022-2023

Plácido Domingo is a multi-faceted and universally renowned artist: he is recognized as one of the best musicians of the last decades and as a legendary tenor who has definitively left his mark on operatic history.

“When I realised that I could never again be satisfied with the simple natural charm of my voice, I realised that I had to paint constantly while singing, blending all the colours, expressing reds and blacks that had to be less primary, more nuanced but bursting with subtle colour combinations.”

Plácido Domingo

Considered to be the greatest operatic artist in the modern world, the career of Plácido Domingo is a series of triumphs on the stages of the entire world. Born in Madrid in 1941, in a family steeped in the art of the Zarzuela lyrical/dramatic genre, he commenced his musical studies in Mexico and learned to play the piano as well as conduct orchestras. His opera career began at the age of eighteen when he participated in a production of Rigoletto in Mexico. At the age of 20 years, he played Alfredo in La Traviata, a role to which he remained faithful throughout his career.

He established himself as the one of the great Lirico spinto tenors, capable of mastering very contrasting roles and singing in many languages. He manages his voice with a long-term vision through ongoing work, constant reappraisal and great modesty. With a mastery of more than 140 roles, he is the singer who boasts the vastest repertoire in the word. He has starred in major cinematic roles. He is also renowned for the famous three tenors’ concert, in 1990, when he shared the stage with his colleagues Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras, which, thanks to its worldwide success, allowed many music lovers to discover the world of opera. He has received a countless number of awards and honours all around the world. After having interpreted some baritone roles, he is now focusing on conducting orchestras, in particular the Los Angeles Opera orchestra.

For this concert, he will be accompanied by the talented American soprano Jennifer Rowley. It thus promises to be a unique and outstanding concert.
