For several years now, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège is an exceptionally dynamic place offering a unique opening: a theatre looking to the future, in constant search of new generations of talent.

Following the creation of the International Opera Conducting Competition in 2017, it was only natural to pursue our commitment to training by opening a masterclass dedicated to the particularities and specifics of conducting an orchestra in the context of an opera.

Open to young people who have already completed a training course and are taking their first steps in the profession, this training week will allow participants to benefit from the advice of Giampaolo Bisanti, the Musical Director of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, for whom the transmission and sharing of experience are of fundamental importance.

This first masterclass will focus on one of the great characteristics of the profession: the three-dimensionality of an opera for a conductor. Maestro Bisanti will develop this aspect through the different phases of preparation of a work and the study of arias centred on ensemble scenes.
